Who is Anikara?
Hi! My name is Bridgette Wilkerson and I’m is a Jersey Native residing in San Francisco. A creative at heart, I fell in love with sculpture after a brief High School Ceramics class.
I studied Marketing at Rutgers University where business students were not allowed to take art classes. To encourage myself and others to continue to create, I founded the “Black Aesthetic” an organization for minorities on her campus to create, connect, and educate each other through the visual arts.
There I found passion and joy creating community spaces for diverse populations to creatively express themselves.
Now I use my marketing skills to inspire creativity in others— from organizing creative workshops at local schools, to supporting the growth of artists and local nonprofits. Along with new ventures to build community through art
My art creations were personal until a tweet of the “For You” hand vase went viral, inspiring me to focus on developing as an artist. That sculpture was then selected for an exhibition at the African American Arts & Cultural Complex in San Francisco.
“My work, like the process of making it, is a peaceful, natural, and spiritual experience.”
